Perth Modern School
Perth Modern School welcomes all who seek to increase their knowledge, gain skills, enrich their lives and benefit from the diverse learning opportunities.

Perth Modern School was established as the first Government secondary school in Western Australia in 1911, after lengthy representations to the State Government. Its charter was to offer a modern education to students of strong academic ability. Selection was by scholarship and both male and female students studied science and modern languages as part of their courses.

Through the years, Perth Modern School developed a strong reputation based on the achievement of high educational standards and the successes of past students.

Perth Modern Selective School research has highlighted the significant benefits for academically gifted students working with others of similar ability. Therefore, Perth Modern School is being extensively redeveloped to offer exceptional learning opportunities for students of outstanding ability.

Students will be able to apply for limited positions becoming available for Year 8 in 2007. Entry will be highly competitive. Selection to Perth Modern Selective School will be based on student performance in nationally recognised aptitude tests including writing, English language, mathematics and general ability.

The school campus will be extensively upgraded commencing in 2006 with a $17 million capital works programme to deliver world-class facilities and resources. The heritage buildings will be retained to ensure the rich history and long tradition of excellence associated with Perth Modern School is preserved.
