ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE FESTIVAL OF DANCE 2010
An annual event organised by the RAD WA Regional Advisory Panel, the Festival of Dance was held at Curtin Theatre in Fremantle, 4-6 June 2010. Special guests included David McAllister OAM, Artistic Director of Australian Ballet and Lynn Wallis, Artistic Director of the Royal Academy of Dance, London.
This year the following students from the College were entered in the three major scholarship categories:

Keshia Ollivierre and Rhianna Isard were awarded first and second placing respectively in the Joan Stacy Scholarship.

PRIX DE LAUSANNE – 26-31 JANUARY 2010
Director Dawn Weller attended the Prix de Lausanne, an international competition open to young dancers aged 15 to 18, which was held at the Theatre de Beaulieu in Lausanne, Switzerland. 83 dancers were selected from 260 applicants worldwide for the semi-finals. 20 were selected for the finals. All finalists and winners have the opportunity of being offered scholarships to some of the world’s finest international dance schools. In the time Dawn was at Lausanne she managed to catch up with friends and former colleagues of the dance world.

SWAN LAKE / CHRISTMAS SECRET - 30 DECEMBER 2009
Venue: The Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre Times: 3:30-5:00 p.m. and 7:30-9:00 p.m. The Graduate College of Dance's end of year production was Swan Lake Acts II & III performed by the senior students and Christmas Secret performed by the junior students. Guest artists included former students Kristian Pisano, a 2006 graduate of the College who finished his final year at the New Zealand School of Dance and has recently accepted a place in Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year for 2010, and Jessica McKemmish, a 2008 graduate of the College. Special thanks to former graduates and students of the College Jessica Rogerson, Rebekha Duncan, Emma Cullinan, Callie Toner and Kirby Selchow who gave their time to assist behind the scenes while on holiday from training overseas or the Eastern States.

2009 INTERNATIONAL ROMANIAN BALLET SUMMER WORKSHOP
The beautiful city of Sibiu, Romania played host to the annual International Romanian Ballet Summer Workshop. This intensive four-week course gave young dancers from all over the world an opportunity to grow technically and artistically in a professional environment working with some of the dance industries renowned professionals, including our own Director, Dawn Weller. The teaching faculty included Nanette Glushak, Director of Toulouse Ballet and an employee of the Balanchine Foundation where her expertise in Balachine’s works is much sort after by dance companies internationally, Monica Fotescu-Uta, principal dancer, Dortmund Ballet, Birgit Scheefe, Teacher Polestart Pilates, Academy Köln, Germany and Bridget Petzold, Teacher, Tanzhaus Düsseldorf and Choreographer.

ALANA HAINES AUSTRALASIAN AWARDS 2009
Ten students from The Graduate College of Dance were entered in the Alana Haines Australiasian Awards for 2009. This year the biennial Awards was held at the Bruce Mason Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. The experience itself was invaluable, giving our students an opportunity to work with some of the industry greats and to meet other young dancers outside of Perth - there were over 200 applicants from the Australiasian region. Congratulations to Paige Macliver who reached the semi-finals in her age category.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE AUTUMN VOCATIONAL GRADED SCHOOL
Held annually, preceding the examinations. Students attended a four day course consisting of body conditioning and syllabus work in preparation for the examinations to commence late July.

RAD'S 'AFTERNOON OF DANCE' - SUNDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2008
Afternoon Of Dance, held at The Graduate College of Dance, showcased three students who were selected by the RAD WA Advisory Panel to represent Western Australia in the 2008 Beijing International Ballet Invitational for Dance Schools. The students were Kirby Selchow, The Graduate College of Dance, Latisha Sparks, Gail Meade Performing Arts Centre and William Banks, Western Australian Academy of Performance Arts. These students were selected based on their outstanding performance at the RAD Festival on 31 May 2008. The Afternoon of Dance included performances from the students of The Graduate College of Dance, Gail Meade Performing Arts and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

BRANTLY-MARIE PHILPOT – THE AUSTRALIAN BURSARY (RAD) - 7 DECEMBER 2008
Brantley-Marie Philpot, Year 10 2008, represented Western Australia in Royal Academy of Dance’s The Australian Bursary. This was held in Sydney on 7 December 2008.

LA BAYADERE - 11-13 DECEMBER 2008
Venue: Quarry Amphitheatre
Times: Thursday to Saturday 8:30-10:00 p.m.
The Graduate College of Dance's end of year production was La Bayadere. The season was performed at the beautiful natural settings of the Quarry Amphitheatre, City Beach. Guest artists included former students Kristian Pisano, a 2006 graduate of the College and currently training at the New Zealand School of Dance, Tamsin Raistrick a 2005 graduate of who graduated from WAAPA this year in Production and Design, and Alexander McKinnon and Brodie James, both currently training at Australian Ballet School.

A.I.C.D. BALLET AWARDS - 28 SEPTEMBER 2007
The A.I.C.D. Ballet Awards is an annual dance competition open to local dance schools. Fourteen students from The Graduate College of Dance were entered in various categories. The College students did very well in the competition - Year 8 Category: 1st Liam Green, 2nd Keshia Ollivierre; Year 9 Category: 1st Adam Alzaim; Year 10 Category: 2nd Kirby Selchow. The adjudicators were Kasey Polkinghorne and Tim O'Donnel, Leading Artists of WA Ballet.

2008 CHOREOGRAPHIC SEASON - THURSDAY, 21 AUGUST, FRIDAY, 22 AUGUST + SATURDAY, 23 AUGUST
This year's theme was "Change - Quote of the Individual" - choreography inspired by words of wisdom. The Year 12 students organised all aspects of the event - staging, finance, administration and choreography. Four performances were held in Studio 1 over a three day period with students from Years 6-12 performing works they choreographed under the guidance and supervision of the Year 12 students.

THE GRADUATE COLLEGE OF DANCE ENDORSED BALLET PROGRAMME
The Curriculum Council have endorsed The Graduate College of Dance: Classical Ballet Year 10, The Graduate College of Dance: Classical Ballet Year 11 and The Graduate College of Dance: Classical Ballet Year 12. From 2009, students at The Graduate College of Dance completing these programs can count this learning towards their senior secondary graduation certificate – the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
CHAIRMAN ROLLS UP SLEEVES
The Chairman of The Graduate College of Dance, pictured with former graduate Tamsin Raistrick, laid the new floor mats at the purpose built studio at St Stephen's School, Carramar Campus. At the start of 2009, ballet and dance studies, administered by The Graduate College of Dance, for Years 7, 8 and 9 will relocate to the Carramar Campus.
